Treatment Class

Loghouse’s Thermo-D, where D stands for durability, has a darker brown shade. Its durability and stability are significantly improved. Thermowood is thermally modified at 212ºC and is suitable for indoor and outdoor applications without the need for chemical preservation. Thermowood is also suitable for humid rooms such as spa and sauna.

Usage Class

Thermowood is suitable for use class 3 applications (BS EN 335), “situations where the wood is above ground and exposed to the weather (especially rain)” It is suitable for use as siding, rainscreen, decking and many other exterior applications. Thermowood is not recommended for use in direct contact with the ground.

Longevity

Thermo-D is rated Durability Class 2 (BS EN 350) “durable” and has a British Research Establishment (BRE) endorsement indicating an expected life of 30 years when used as cladding and decking. Durability and color are consistent throughout the piece.

Dimensional stability

The lower moisture content of Thermowood makes it dimensionally stable and the material retains its shape much better than untreated wood. Thank’s to its excellent dimensional stability, Thermowood can be successfully used indoors and outdoors in all climates and even in hot and humid weather.

Maintenance

Thermowood is durable and does not require maintenance to stand the test of time. However, regular maintenance is recommended to maintain the original appearance and prevent small cracks and splits over time. The surface treatment should be renewed when necessary. The need for re-treatment depends on the climate, intensity of use and the degree of exposure to UV light. To completely refresh the surface, you can wash off discoloured wood, allow to dry thoroughly, and recoat. Make sure that the water pressure is only high enough to remove the discoloured surface and not lift the grain of the wood.
